Pay out and book tips correctly.

Cash tips go straight to staff, no accounting. Card tips flow via your account and are payroll-relevant: voluntary tips sit outside the VAT base (no supply to the guest), but depending on the collective agreement, payroll tax can apply. Check with your accountant.

Try this first

  1. 1Book card tips on a separate ledger account, not revenue.
  2. 2Distribute per agreement: by hour, shift, or equal share.
  3. 3Keep a log of who received what for later audit.
  4. 4Confirm with your accountant if it must run through payroll.

When to bring us in

On high volumes or collective-agreement questions, have the accountant confirm your tip structure.
