Internet only works when VPN is off

Happens when VPN forces all traffic through the corporate route and that route is bottlenecked.

Try this first

  1. 1Disconnect VPN, verify internet works, then reconnect. Sometimes just a bad start.
  2. 2Open speedtest.net with VPN on. No response? The VPN route is blocking all DNS.
  3. 3Ask IT if split-tunnel is on. Without split-tunnel ALL traffic goes through VPN; if internet drops entirely with VPN on, the issue is DNS or routing at the gateway side.
  4. 4Restart your laptop with the VPN client fully closed and try again.

When to bring us in

We can route only office traffic over VPN (split-tunnel) or fix DNS resolvers in policy. Both are quick.
