Internet only works when VPN is off
Happens when VPN forces all traffic through the corporate route and that route is bottlenecked.
Try this first
- 1Disconnect VPN, verify internet works, then reconnect. Sometimes just a bad start.
- 2Open speedtest.net with VPN on. No response? The VPN route is blocking all DNS.
- 3Ask IT if split-tunnel is on. Without split-tunnel ALL traffic goes through VPN; if internet drops entirely with VPN on, the issue is DNS or routing at the gateway side.
- 4Restart your laptop with the VPN client fully closed and try again.
When to bring us in
We can route only office traffic over VPN (split-tunnel) or fix DNS resolvers in policy. Both are quick.
