Home PC slow on VPN, fast at the office
Three suspects: home internet, VPN server limits, or routing that takes a long detour.
Try this first
- 1Run speedtest.net without VPN, then with. Up to roughly 20-30% loss is normal depending on protocol and server location; more than 50-70% means something is off.
- 2In your VPN client look for "pick the nearest server". You may be on one in another country.
- 3Wired instead of Wi-Fi on your home router. Wi-Fi jitter is amplified dramatically by VPN.
- 4Ask IT whether "split tunnel" is on; only corporate traffic over VPN, the rest goes direct. If not, your YouTube also routes through the office.
When to bring us in
All remote workers slow at once? VPN server itself is full. We can look at capacity and advise.

- VPN will not connect or keeps droppingTwo main causes: your home internet or the VPN server. One quick test separates them.
- VPN connects but corporate folders are unreachableConnection says "green" but your network drives will not open. Almost always a DNS or routing issue.
- I cannot print to the office printer from homeGood news: that is usually intentional. VPN for data, local printer for paper.
