When does the drum unit need replacing?
The drum wears separately from the toner. Black spots, a faint repeating pattern, or grey background are the signs.
Try this first
- 1Print a solid-text test page and look: black dots at regular intervals? That's the drum (fixed circumference = fixed spacing on the page).
- 2Faint grey background on what should be white: drum is worn or saturated.
- 3The printer often raises its own drum warning around 12,000-30,000 pages (model dependent). Do not ignore it for too long; a burnt drum can take other parts down with it.
- 4Drum replacement is usually a cassette swap, similar to toner. Some brands integrate drum and toner in one block.
When to bring us in
Drum maintenance lives inside contract-printer service packages. On your own kit a drum runs €100-€300. Call your vendor; we can advise on contract choice.
