Laptop changes hands, what do I do about passwords
A second-hand or handed-down laptop deserves a fresh start. Otherwise you inherit sessions, habits and risks from the previous owner.
Try this first
- 1Sign out of every account the previous owner used (browser, Teams, Outlook).
- 2Change your work password right after taking it into use.
- 3Re-enrol MFA with your own phone, not the previous owner's.
- 4Remove old browser profiles and password managers from the system.
- 5Ask IT for a clean re-image if you have any doubt about what is still on it.
