VPN does not work on hotel or cafe Wi-Fi
Many public networks block default VPN ports. The trick is to switch to a port they do leave open.
Try this first
- 1First sign in to the hotel portal (splash page) before starting VPN.
- 2In the VPN client try switching to TCP on port 443 if available.
- 3If not, share your phone's 4G/5G and use that hotspot.
- 4Avoid "open" Wi-Fi for work; use an ad-hoc hotspot from your phone.
When to bring us in
Travel a lot and hit this often? We set up a VPN profile over port 443. It passes almost every captive portal.
