Error code 53003 when signing in from home
Microsoft Entra error 53003 means Conditional Access blocked this session. Usually country, device state, or a compliance flag.
Try this first
- 1Read the message carefully. It often names the policy responsible, sometimes only the code is shown.
- 2Check Entra > Sign-in logs > find your attempt. Under Conditional Access you see which policy returned "Failure" and on which condition.
- 3Common causes: laptop not compliant in Intune (missed a recent update), sign-in from a country outside Named Locations, MFA claim expired on this device.
- 4Quick fix for a colleague abroad: admin can add a Named Location for the IP range, or exclude the account from the policy temporarily.
- 5For "device not compliant": have the user open Company Portal and force a sync. Wait 5 to 15 minutes and retry.
When to bring us in
If the admin is unreachable and the user has to work, you need a break-glass account to amend policies. Set up before, not during a crisis. We can configure this as a one-off.
