Mac no longer finds the AirPrint printer
AirPrint runs on mDNS/Bonjour. On networks with VLANs or guest Wi-Fi that often doesn't cross subnets.
Try this first
- 1Check the Mac and printer are on the same Wi-Fi. On guest Wi-Fi? Switch to the work network.
- 2System Settings > Printers & Scanners > '+' > 'IP' tab. Enter the printer IP, pick 'AirPrint' or 'Generic PostScript'.
- 3Still nothing? Print a status page from the printer menu. It lists the exact IP and supported protocols.
- 4Multi-VLAN network? Ask IT for Bonjour relay (Avahi) or a direct IP binding. mDNS broadcast doesn't cross routers.
When to bring us in
VLAN and mDNS questions are real network work. One hour of setup, no more 'my Mac can't find it' complaints after.
