Video call stutters or pixelates, especially on VPN
VPN adds latency and overhead; Teams or Meet is more sensitive to that than downloading a document.
Try this first
- 1Ask IT whether "split tunnel" is on. Ideally video traffic does NOT go through VPN, because Teams servers sit close and VPN forces a detour.
- 2Test without VPN: one meeting outside office hours with VPN off. Big improvement? VPN routing is the issue.
- 3Wired instead of Wi-Fi on your home router. Wi-Fi jitter is amplified through VPN.
- 4Close cloud syncs (OneDrive, Dropbox) during the call. They share VPN bandwidth with video.
- 5Lower video quality (Teams: three dots > Device settings > Video > Advanced settings) as a fallback.
When to bring us in
If the call is bad without VPN too: home internet issue (see /support/wifi-en-netwerk). With VPN: we can set up split-tunnel for you.

- VPN will not connect or keeps droppingTwo main causes: your home internet or the VPN server. One quick test separates them.
- VPN connects but corporate folders are unreachableConnection says "green" but your network drives will not open. Almost always a DNS or routing issue.
- Home PC slow on VPN, fast at the officeThree suspects: home internet, VPN server limits, or routing that takes a long detour.
