DECT handsets in a large building, how to get coverage and handover?
One base station covers around 30 to 50 metres indoors, less with thick walls. For warehouses and larger offices you need a multi-cell system with handover between base stations.
Try this first
- 1Do a site survey or hire one, do not guess on one base per floor.
- 2Choose a multi-cell system (e.g. Yealink W90 or Snom M-series) for handover while walking.
- 3Do not use repeaters as a substitute for extra base stations, they add latency and drop calls.
- 4Use a separate VLAN for DECT bases with PoE, or you end up with a spaghetti of power adapters.
When to bring us in
Calls drop in fixed spots: heatmap after install and add base stations where coverage is thin, do not hope it gets better.
