Teams chats differ between phone and laptop
Teams syncs chats via the cloud, but older messages are cached locally. On a fresh phone older threads can be missing temporarily.
Try this first
- 1Open a specific chat on the phone and scroll up. It loads older messages on demand.
- 2Force a sync: fully close Teams, reopen, wait 1-2 minutes.
- 3Sign out and back in to your work account in Teams to refresh the cache.
- 4If a chat is genuinely different on each device, confirm you are signed in to the right work account. Some users have dual tenant access.
When to bring us in
If a chat is also missing on the laptop, a retention policy may have purged it; we see that in the tenant.
