Wiping a lost or returned device remotely
For enrolled devices, an admin can wipe only work data (selective) or the entire device.
Try this first
- 1Decide if it is a personal device with a work profile (selective wipe is enough) or a fully managed device (full wipe).
- 2The user themselves can unlink an old phone via account.microsoft.com/devices. That is not a wipe but a first block.
- 3An admin runs the wipe in Intune > Devices > selection > Wipe or Retire.
- 4Confirm the wipe completed by checking status in Intune; it shows 'pending' until a powered-off device comes back online.
When to bring us in
A wipe is something we or the admin perform; end users do not have the permission. Email us the IMEI or device name and we will handle it.
