I cannot get MFA SMS abroad
SMS roaming is fragile. Trick: use Authenticator push or a TOTP code, both of which run over the internet.
Try this first
- 1Before you leave: set Authenticator as your primary MFA method. Push runs on the internet, not SMS.
- 2Have a TOTP code (6 digits in Authenticator)? That works offline; no network needed as long as the phone clock is correct.
- 3Need SMS anyway? Enable international roaming with your carrier before you leave.
- 4Never swap to a local SIM for MFA SMS; the number changes and you lock yourself out.
