Phone replaced or broken, Authenticator codes gone, locked out everywhere.
If the old device is gone before you transferred, you have lost your second factor, not your password. The fix runs via your admin or via account recovery, not via the app. Prevent next time with Authenticator cloud backup (Microsoft, Google) or a hardware key alongside your phone.
Try this first
- 1Try login on another device, at the MFA step pick 'other option' and check for a backup method (SMS fallback, recovery codes, alternate mail).
- 2Work account: ask IT or the M365 admin to reset your MFA methods in Entra ID, you get a temporary access pass (TAP).
- 3Personal Microsoft or Google: run account recovery, sometimes takes days, plan around it.
- 4Once back in: turn on Authenticator cloud backup and print recovery codes for seeds that cannot sync (Bitwarden, AWS, GitHub).
When to bring us in
Call us if several employees lost access at once, or if the TAP route fails because the admin is locked out too.
