Office says 'no valid licence' while I am just working

Often the apps are signed in with a personal Microsoft account, or a licence has not propagated after a role or plan change.

Try this first

  1. 1Open Word or Excel > File > Account. 'Signed in as' should be your work mail, not hotmail/outlook.com.
  2. 2Click 'Sign out', close Word, reopen, and sign in with your work mail.
  3. 3In Account, click 'Update licence' (it may be hidden under 'Product information').
  4. 4No such button and still failing? Sign in to office.com and see if Word/Excel tiles appear there; that confirms whether the licence is assigned to you.

When to bring us in

For new roles or starters, licence assignment in the tenant often needs a check; mail us and we will adjust it directly.
