SIP trunk: pick registration or IP authentication?

Registration works behind NAT, IP auth is sturdier but needs a static IP.

Try this first

  1. 1Registration: PBX sends REGISTER with username/password
  2. 2IP auth: provider whitelists your public IP, no REGISTER needed
  3. 3Static public IP required for IP auth, so business fibre or static tunnel
  4. 4Combo possible but harder to debug

When to bring us in

Trunk drops randomly? Usually NAT keepalive or dynamic IP, not the trunk itself.
