Vendor asks 'log in via Microsoft or Google?': which do I pick?

An SSO choice is a long-term choice. Once you are signed in via Microsoft 365 you cannot simply move to Google Workspace without strain.

Try this first

  1. 1Pick the IdP that holds your primary account. Work mail at @company.com on M365? Then sign in via Microsoft, else you end up in a weird hybrid state.
  2. 2Have both? Pick the one most colleagues actively use; SSO works better the more people follow the same flow.
  3. 3Document per SaaS which SSO source it uses; at IdP migration you will need this list.
  4. 4If the vendor offers 'sign in with email' alongside Microsoft/Google: always pick the SSO variant, passwords get lost.
  5. 5Test the logout flow once; some SaaS only logs out locally and keeps the SSO session open.

When to bring us in

If you choose Google now but consider moving to Microsoft (or vice versa): ask for advice, as migrating SSO sources can get expensive.
