Vendor mentions 'SCIM provisioning': what is it and do I want it?
SCIM auto-provisions and de-provisions users in a SaaS via your IdP (M365, Okta). Beyond 20 users it is rarely wasted effort.
Try this first
- 1Without SCIM: each new hire means manually creating an account in every SaaS; each leaver means undoing it everywhere.
- 2With SCIM: you manage users in M365 or Okta, the SaaS follows automatically: on, off, and group assignment.
- 3Not every SaaS offers SCIM; often only on pricier tiers. Check 'SCIM' or 'auto-provisioning' on their pricing page before signing.
- 4Setup at Microsoft happens via Entra ID > Enterprise applications > [SaaS] > Provisioning, using a token from the vendor.
- 5Test with one user first; SCIM misconfigurations can wipe all accounts if set wrong.
When to bring us in
SCIM implementation and attribute mapping is technical and painful when it breaks. Ask for advice before turning this on tenant-wide.
