WiFi drops, POS has to keep going.
A phone hotspot or a 4G router next to the till usually bridges it. Cloud POS can run offline briefly, but terminals truly need internet for authorisation.
Try this first
- 1Enable hotspot on a work phone, connect POS and terminal.
- 2Keep a 4G backup router (Teltonika, Peplink) ready at the counter.
- 3Test the fallback at least once a quarter, not only during outages.
- 4Note the backup SSID where staff can see it.
When to bring us in
On recurring drops, have a network partner check the uplink and router log. Usually the provider modem is the cause, not WiFi.
