My system tray has 30 icons and login is slow

Each icon = a background process. OEM tools, vendor updaters, old printer software. Most are redundant after the first week.

Try this first

  1. 1Open Task Manager > Startup tab. Sort by 'Status' to see what auto-starts.
  2. 2Disable: vendor updaters (Adobe Updater, HP Support, Lenovo Vantage), old printer tools, overlays from laptop makers.
  3. 3Reboot. The tray should now be quiet with only useful tools (Teams, OneDrive, antivirus, VPN, perhaps a driver tray).
  4. 4For whatever remains: right-click the tray icon, often there is a 'do not start at boot' option.

When to bring us in

On managed laptops we strip OEM bloatware uniformly. A new 2026 laptop is often slow out of the box from bloat.
