Work profile is set up but corporate apps never appear
Android work profile pulls apps through Managed Google Play. If assignment or policy is just slightly off, the work profile stays empty save for a few defaults.
Try this first
- 1On the device: open the work Play Store (yellow work badge). Truly empty or only Outlook and Teams? Points to unassigned apps.
- 2In Intune (or your MDM): verify the user sits in a group with apps assigned. For Android Enterprise, set assignment to "Required", not "Available".
- 3Force a sync. Device: Settings > Accounts > Work account > Sync. Intune: Devices > pick device > Sync.
- 4Still empty, check that Managed Google Play is linked in MDM. Intune: Apps > Android > Managed Google Play. The token sometimes expires after a year unnoticed.
- 5Last check: the work profile may have a data or wifi condition. On limited mobile data, Play sometimes does not auto-download large apps.
When to bring us in
A whole batch of new Androids ships with empty work profiles: likely an expired token or undeployed policy. One short session fixes all future devices.
