I cannot edit a SharePoint page even though I should be able to

Site edit rights are not the same as page edit rights. Often the page is checked out by someone else or set to 'Read only'.

Try this first

  1. 1Click 'Edit' top-right. Seeing 'Checked out by X'? Ask X to publish or check the page in.
  2. 2No 'Edit' button? Ask the site owner to add you to the 'Members' group (not 'Visitors').
  3. 3Just got rights? Sign out and back into SharePoint; permission tokens cache up to an hour per session.
  4. 4Test in a private window to rule out browser cache.

When to bring us in

If site owners themselves cannot edit, or a page stays stuck checked out, we should look at site-level permissions.
