What does a backup solution cost per employee per month?
SMB backup pricing ranges widely depending on what you protect. Ask per data type, not per headcount. A flat per-employee price is usually misleading.
Try this first
- 1Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace backup (Veeam M365 Backup, AvePoint, Acronis, Datto SaaS Protection): per user per month, typically a few euros per seat. Scales with headcount.
- 2Endpoint backup (laptop files, not OneDrive which already syncs): Druva, IDrive, Backblaze Business. Per laptop per month, similar bracket.
- 3Server or NAS backup (Veeam, Acronis, Synology Active Backup): per VM or per volume license plus cold storage cost (Wasabi, B2, S3 Glacier). Most variable, quote on data volume.
- 4Cold storage (target side): typically a few dollars per terabyte per month for object storage. Egress (retrieval) is separate, read the fine print.
- 5Total TCO rule of thumb: license + storage + restore-test time. Under 10 staff a solid backup plan often lands at a fixed monthly tens-of-euros total, not per head.
