For M365 backup we're torn between AvePoint, Veeam and Dropsuite, how to choose?
All three are mature and cover the M365 essentials (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams). The difference is self-service, migration support, storage model and pricing model. Trial two of the three for 30 days, then pick.
Try this first
- 1AvePoint Cloud Backup: SaaS only, per-user-per-month pricing, strong on granular restore and cross-tenant migration. Storage included.
- 2Veeam Backup for M365: licence + bring-your-own-storage. You run the backup VM and repository (local or cloud object storage). More control, more work, often cheaper at scale.
- 3Dropsuite: SaaS only, per-user-per-month, popular through MSP channels. Strong on retention and compliance, especially for legal and accounting.
- 4Compare: per-user pricing (AvePoint, Dropsuite) vs storage-based (Veeam). At 50+ users the cost balance shifts, ranges vary per vendor.
- 5Trial what actually matters: restore speed of one mailbox, granular SharePoint item restore, Teams channel-message restore, cross-user restore. That's what you do in production, not the feature list.
- 6Mind data residency: EU customers often need EU-region storage. AvePoint and Dropsuite have EU options, with Veeam you pick storage yourself.
When to bring us in
Multiple tenants, complex migration needs, or regulated sectors benefit from an M365 architect or MSP partner. They know retention-vs-backup nuances and API rate limits that don't surface in a trial.
