Internet briefly becomes unusable on and off, with no clear reason
Sometimes a flood (denial-of-service) on your public IP, sometimes an internal loop, sometimes a too-eager backup.
Try this first
- 1In your router or firewall, look at the bandwidth chart. See unexplained spikes on inbound or outbound?
- 2Ask around the office: did anyone do a big upload, video export, or cloud sync? Often a harmless cause.
- 3Schedule large backups and cloud syncs for nighttime. No reason to load office hours.
- 4If you genuinely suspect an attack: call the provider. Some can apply rough filters on the inbound line temporarily.
When to bring us in
A pattern of spikes calls for logging and analysis. We place a temporary monitor and usually identify the cause within a few days.
