Wi-Fi drops randomly across the office
First rule out whether it is the access points or the internet connection itself. Different fix.
Try this first
- 1Plug into a wired LAN cable on the same switch: does it stay up while Wi-Fi drops? Then it is the APs, not your internet.
- 2Reboot the most-used access point by powering it off for 30 seconds. If the issue is gone for 24 hours, it was a memory leak.
- 3Open your Wi-Fi dashboard (Ubiquiti, Aruba, Meraki, etc.) and look for one AP with many more disconnects than the others. Possibly faulty or under interference.
- 4Check non-IT sources: a new microwave, a 2.4 GHz cordless phone, or a heavy Bluetooth installation can disrupt an AP.
When to bring us in
If it happens everywhere simultaneously and at random times, look at the uplink (your internet line) or the DHCP server. We can join via remote access on your gear.
