Browser routes DNS around your office filter
Modern browsers use "DNS over HTTPS" (DoH) and bypass your local DNS server. Annoying when you rely on filtering or internal DNS.
Try this first
- 1In Edge, Chrome or Firefox: find the "secure DNS" or "DNS over HTTPS" setting. Disable it on the work laptops.
- 2Then verify that internal servers and cloud services are reachable by name (not only by IP).
- 3For a fleet of laptops: this is easy to set in one go via Windows Group Policy or MDM.
- 4Leave it on for personal laptops; there DoH is a privacy plus.
When to bring us in
For a wider rollout via Microsoft 365 or Intune we centralize this. Set once and forget.
