NL and EN versions of the site, Google ranks the wrong version

Hreflang tells Google which page is for which language/region. Without it you get wrong versions in search.

Try this first

  1. 1Enable hreflang in your SEO plugin or multilingual plugin (WPML, Polylang)
  2. 2Per page: link the NL version to its EN equivalent via the language switcher
  3. 3Generate x-default for visitors outside your target regions
  4. 4Validate in Search Console > International Targeting

When to bring us in

Hreflang correct but Google still shows NL to EN visitors, could be a canonical conflict, dev needed.
