A room system needs to sit more than 100 meters from the switch

Cat6 and Cat6a are specified for 100 meters including patch, beyond that the link drops or PoE collapses. Common in larger buildings, fix is an intermediate switch or fiber.

Try this first

  1. 1Measure actual cable length, not line of sight, cable across a ceiling stretches faster than you think.
  2. 2Under 100 meters including patches, Cat6a with PoE+ works for most room bars.
  3. 3Beyond 100 meters, plan an intermediate switch in a halfway patch room or run fiber to a local switch.
  4. 4For PoE++ devices the switch must deliver it, an older PoE switch gives too little for some room bars.
  5. 5Document in the patch schema where the intermediate switch sits and which PoE class it delivers.
  6. 6Test the link under load, a measurement without traffic says less than during a real meeting.
