Comparing Crestron Mercury and Logitech Tap or Tap IP for our room controller

Both do room control, but the philosophy differs. Crestron Mercury is a more traditional UC device with its own DSP and ecosystem, Logitech Tap is a controller bound to a room bar like Rally Bar or MeetUp and rides on the room OS. The choice depends on what you already have and who manages it.

Try this first

  1. 1Inventory existing AV gear, if a Crestron or Q-Sys estate is already in place Mercury stays logical, on a greenfield Logitech is usually faster and cheaper.
  2. 2Check which room system you run, Tap IP works over PoE and connects to a room bar over the network, removing USB cables under the table, Mercury has its own mics and speakers built in.
  3. 3Compare licensing, Tap needs a Microsoft Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms licence on the matching compute unit, Mercury runs native UC or as an appliance.
  4. 4Check management and updates, Logitech Sync and Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro Management are relatively light tools, a full Crestron estate often needs a maintenance contract and programming hours.
  5. 5Plan for scale, in large rooms Crestron with DSP and separate mics is usually stronger, in huddle and medium rooms Logitech is often enough.
  6. 6Calculate total cost over five years, not just acquisition, hardware, licences, programming and support together give the real picture.

When to bring us in

In mixed portfolios one vendor per room type is usually easiest to manage. Vectel runs a comparison against your room mix and existing support contracts.
