Fax still required (notary, government, healthcare), how on VoIP?

Classic fax over G.711 is unreliable due to jitter. T.38 is more robust but not every trunk supports it. For most SMBs, e-fax (mail to fax gateway) is the simplest.

Try this first

  1. 1Check how often fax is really used, often it is one counterparty that also accepts email.
  2. 2Ask the fax counterparty if email or secure upload works, that saves setup.
  3. 3Inbound: tie an e-fax service to a number and forward to mailbox.
  4. 4Outbound: use an e-fax service or the provider's web portal.

When to bring us in

Physical fax machine has to stay: order T.38 explicitly with the provider and test against a known counterparty before production.
