Refurbished POS hardware, sensible?
For side stations, pop-ups and backup devices, refurbished is fine. For main till and terminals: new, with manufacturer warranty and update path. Refurbished terminals are often end-of-life for security patches.
Try this first
- 1Only buy refurbished from a vendor with 6+ months warranty.
- 2Ask for a battery report on mobile POS tablets.
- 3Verify the manufacturer still ships security updates for that model.
- 4Keep a new terminal as primary, refurbished only as backup.
When to bring us in
For terminals, have the PCI-PTS status verified by your acquirer. Unsupported terminals are blocked.
