Card declined but customer got a bank SMS.

Banks sometimes send a 'reservation' SMS before the transaction is finally declined or booked. The amount is reversed within a few bank-business days. If your POS shows declined, that is usually correct.

Try this first

  1. 1Check transaction status in POS and on the terminal.
  2. 2Show customer on display: declined, no charge.
  3. 3Advise the customer to wait 2-3 working days for reversal.
  4. 4Keep the declined slip print as evidence for any claim.

When to bring us in

If the customer keeps calling after 5 working days, refer them to their own bank, not you. You cannot see their account.
