My browser suddenly behaves oddly: slow, forgets passwords, crashes

Corrupt profiles happen more than you think. Bookmarks, history, and settings live in a local file that sometimes breaks.

Try this first

  1. 1Close the browser fully (all windows, check the tray icon).
  2. 2Create a new profile: Chrome > avatar top right > 'Add'. Same in Edge. Test if the issue follows you into the new profile.
  3. 3New profile is fine? Migrate slowly: export bookmarks from the old, import into the new. Passwords return via your sync account.
  4. 4Leave the old profile around (do not delete) so you can fall back if something is missing.

When to bring us in

On work-managed Edge we reset the profile without data loss. Short task, about fifteen minutes.
