My browser suddenly behaves oddly: slow, forgets passwords, crashes
Corrupt profiles happen more than you think. Bookmarks, history, and settings live in a local file that sometimes breaks.
Try this first
- 1Close the browser fully (all windows, check the tray icon).
- 2Create a new profile: Chrome > avatar top right > 'Add'. Same in Edge. Test if the issue follows you into the new profile.
- 3New profile is fine? Migrate slowly: export bookmarks from the old, import into the new. Passwords return via your sync account.
- 4Leave the old profile around (do not delete) so you can fall back if something is missing.
When to bring us in
On work-managed Edge we reset the profile without data loss. Short task, about fifteen minutes.
