What does a proper workstation cost on top of the laptop
Laptop plus dock plus monitor plus input plus headset easily lands at half to double the laptop price.
Try this first
- 1Dock: USB-C dock with enough ports and charging is 100 to 250 euros. Dell, Lenovo, Caldigit are the safe brands. Avoid ultra-cheap generic docks under heavy use.
- 2Monitor: 27 inch with USB-C charging runs 250 to 500 euros for a solid one. For two screens count twice. An ultrawide replaces two monitors at roughly the price of two combined.
- 3Keyboard and mouse: 60 to 200 euros total. Logitech MX or equivalent lasts; generic sets wear out after a year.
- 4Headset: for Teams or VoIP work, 80 to 200 euros for a decent USB headset (Jabra Evolve, Poly Voyager). Cheaper exists, generates audio complaints.
- 5Webcam: laptop cameras are mostly fine in 2026. An external Logitech or Poly is only required for meeting-room setups, unnecessary for solo work.
