My cloud bill creeps up 5 or 10 percent every month, nobody knows why.

Creeping growth is almost always a mix of data growth, unused resources that keep running, and default settings that get pricier over time.

Try this first

  1. 1Take your last three monthly invoices and compare the top 5 line items, not the totals.
  2. 2Look for storage that never shrinks: old snapshots, dev databases, log retention without limits.
  3. 3Check VMs and containers sitting idle, especially test environments nobody shuts down, and overprovisioned database instances.
  4. 4Set billing alerts and tags on everything, so a new department or project does not silently start costing money.
