Discolouration or burn-in on my screen, normal or broken?
On LCD, a persistent stain is almost always a defect. On OLED, temporary retention can be normal. Test: does it fade after some changing content?
Try this first
- 1Run a varied-content video or screensaver for 10 minutes. OLED retention often fades.
- 2Stain remains? On LCD it is the panel or pressure damage. Do not press or heat; you'll make it worse.
- 3Check warranty. For OLED some makers cite 'normal use' against burn-in. Read terms before claiming.
- 4Prevent on OLED: screen saver after 5 minutes, taskbar auto-hide, dynamic backgrounds. Office OLED is a risk without that hygiene.
