Out-of-office sends nothing, or sends too much

Usually a mix of separate internal/external messages and a "send only during this period" rule that is wrong.

Try this first

  1. 1Outlook > File > Automatic Replies. Confirm "Send automatic replies" is on and the time window is correct.
  2. 2Two tabs: "Inside my organisation" and "Outside my organisation". Many fill only the first and external senders get nothing.
  3. 3External limited? Tick "My Contacts only" or "Anyone outside my organisation", not just "My Contacts"; otherwise unknown senders miss it.
  4. 4For Outlook Web: outlook.office.com > gear > "Automatic replies". Same setting, sometimes easier from phone.
  5. 5If it does send but multiple times to one sender: that is normal, Outlook sends once per person per session.
