Cloud region went down and so did we
Single-region single-AZ is a single point of failure. Multi-AZ is usually affordable, multi-region pricier.
Try this first
- 1Run at least Multi-AZ in production: 2 or 3 AZs within one region
- 2Database: Multi-AZ standby or Aurora with multi-AZ writers
- 3Backup to a different region, not just a different AZ
- 4Plan and rehearse DR, a runbook that doesn't live in someone's head
When to bring us in
For RTO/RPO in minutes, plan active-active multi-region. Expect 2x baseline cost plus complexity.
