On-prem AD must sync to Entra ID
Entra Connect (or newer Cloud Sync) keeps accounts and passwords in sync between on-prem AD and Entra.
Try this first
- 1Pick Entra Connect Sync (server) or Entra Cloud Sync (agent)
- 2For SMB with one forest, Cloud Sync is usually enough and simpler
- 3Enable Password Hash Sync, optionally Pass-through Auth or ADFS
- 4Plan staged rollout: filter first by OU, then expand
When to bring us in
For complex forests, multi-domain or shared UPN suffixes, plan a PoC.
