Cloud backup with 3-2-1 for a 10-person office
3-2-1 means: 3 copies of your data, on 2 different media, with 1 off-site. For a small office in 2026 this is achievable with a combination of NAS, cloud and immutable cold storage.
Try this first
- 1Production data (copy 1): your working files in OneDrive/SharePoint and on your on-prem file server or NAS. Daily working version.
- 2Local backup (copy 2, different medium): NAS in the same building does a daily backup of work data and M365 tenant. Synology Hyper Backup, QNAP HBS, Veeam Backup Free Edition are options.
- 3Off-site backup (copy 3, off-site, immutable): weekly or daily replication to Wasabi, Backblaze B2, AWS S3 Glacier with object lock on. Immutable means a ransomware actor cannot encrypt your backup.
- 4M365/Google Workspace separately: SaaS backup (Veeam M365, Datto SaaS, AvePoint) belongs in this picture. SaaS data does not fall under "Microsoft backs itself up".
- 5Test at least quarterly: pick a specific folder from last month and restore it from each tier. If it works, 3-2-1 is real.
When to bring us in
A 3-2-1 architecture diagram with immutable cold tier for a 10-person office is a fixed project for us. Ask for the standard runbook.

- Someone accidentally deleted an important folderUsually fine to recover. The trick: do not save anything new on that drive until you know how.
