Where are my Copilot/ChatGPT prompts stored?
Different places for different tools. The 'delete' button does not always remove what people think it does.
Try this first
- 1Microsoft 365 Copilot: prompts and responses are in your tenant's Audit Log and in eDiscovery scope. Admin and compliance can reach them. Which events surface depends on Purview Audit tier (Standard sees basics, Premium sees more).
- 2ChatGPT Team/Enterprise: conversations are retained per workspace setting, admins can configure retention. 'Delete' from UI removes definitively after a short delay.
- 3Claude for business: conversations in your workspace, similar to ChatGPT. Not for training by default per Anthropic policy (verify current).
- 4Gemini in Workspace: prompts and outputs sit in Workspace data like other Google data, under the same DPA.
- 5Tell people this. A departing employee surprised that their prompts are findable is preventable with one onboarding line.
When to bring us in
eDiscovery request or legal hold that has to capture AI prompts: not a switch, we are happy to assist.
