Do we need HDMI 2.1 or is 2.0 enough for our room
For 4K at 60Hz, HDMI 2.0 already suffices, that is what most room systems output. HDMI 2.1 targets 4K at 120Hz or 8K, almost never needed in a meeting room.
Try this first
- 1Check what the room system and the display support, the weakest link sets the standard.
- 2For 4K at 60Hz a Premium High Speed certified HDMI 2.0 cable is enough, that covers nearly all meeting content.
- 3HDMI 2.1 only pays back for gaming rooms or 8K, not for PowerPoint or video calls.
- 4Mind cable length, for 4K at 60Hz a passive HDMI stays safe to about 5 meters, longer goes active HDMI or fiber.
- 5For 8K or high frame rate, a 48Gbps Ultra High Speed cable is needed, rarely relevant in a meeting room.
- 6Document specs per room, otherwise someone buys a 2.1 cable that does not work on a 2.0 source.
When to bring us in
For uniform cabling across rooms, Vectel can lock a certified cable standard, that prevents incidents.
