Unsure whether to install AV ourselves or bring in a specialist firm
A huddle with an all-in-one bar and a TV is fine to mount yourself, a bigger room with ceiling mics, dual display, DSP and cables through walls is not. The line sits at what goes into the ceiling or wall, and at the warranty and certification your vendor requires.
Try this first
- 1Per room, scope the construction impact, a TV on a wall mount with one HDMI behind a moulding is DIY, cables through ceiling tiles and a DSP rack is installer work.
- 2Check vendor certification, some warranties like Crestron or certain Shure arrays require installation by a certified partner.
- 3Cost it in person-hours and risk, DIY install of a large room often costs more than two IT days and leaves no fallback if it does not work.
- 4Get turnkey install quotes including programming, compare against a DIY scenario where IT only places devices and programming comes from the vendor.
- 5Plan support separately, installation without a support contract means you have to activate the vendor yourself on issues, often more expensive than a fixed contract.
- 6Document a single point of contact, even in a mixed model one party should own install and support, otherwise finger pointing between IT, facility and vendor.
When to bring us in
A room failing on launch day costs more than a good installer. Vectel plans and delivers the install including programming, asset tagging and helpdesk integration.
