Word opens slowly, feels like it hangs on the splash
Word queries the default printer at every start for page setup. An offline or slow network printer then blocks for ten to thirty seconds.
Try this first
- 1Set Microsoft Print to PDF as default printer temporarily
- 2Test if Word opens immediately, if yes the old printer is the cause
- 3Remove dead printer objects from Devices and Printers
- 4Update or remove the printer driver, prefer a universal driver
