My drive is nearly full and everything slows down
An SSD below 10% free space is not 10% slower; it is dramatically slower. SSDs need empty space to shuffle data around.
Try this first
- 1Explorer > This PC, look at the C drive bar. Below 10% free? Clean up now.
- 2Open Settings > System > Storage. It shows what eats space per category: Apps, Temp files, Documents.
- 3Enable Storage Sense: 'Automatically remove temp files'. Solves a third of chronic cases.
- 4Turn on OneDrive Files-On-Demand: files live in the cloud and only land on disk when used. Often saves tens of GB.
- 5Move photo and video libraries to an external drive or OneDrive.
When to bring us in
A 256 GB SSD that fills up within a year on a 2026 work laptop is just too small. Time for advice on upgrade or replacement.
