My laptop is empty in the bag while it was sleeping

Modern Standby S0 keeps the CPU partially awake for mail and notifications. A driver that fails to sleep keeps it active all night.

Try this first

  1. 1Run powercfg /sleepstudy and open the HTML report
  2. 2Look at Active vs DRIPS percentages, anything below 70% DRIPS is wrong
  3. 3Identify the offending driver or software in the top offenders
  4. 4Update WiFi, USB and chipset drivers to OEM versions

When to bring us in

If hardware cannot do S0 reliably: switch back to S3 hibernate in BIOS if supported.
