Marketing wants our logo next to the sender in Gmail and Outlook

BIMI shows a logo in mail clients that support it (Gmail, Apple Mail, some Yahoo). Prerequisites: DMARC at p=quarantine or p=reject and a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) from an issuing CA. Not all clients render it, and a VMC costs real money.

Try this first

  1. 1Check the prerequisites: domain has DMARC p=quarantine pct=100 or p=reject. Without that BIMI does nothing.
  2. 2Produce your logo as SVG Tiny PS 1.2 (square, no scripts, no external references). Many logos need to be redrawn.
  3. 3Buy a Verified Mark Certificate from DigiCert or Entrust. Requires a registered trademark (BOIP for Benelux) and costs a few hundred to a thousand euros per year.
  4. 4Publish the BIMI record as TXT at default._bimi.yourdomain: 'v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain/logo.svg; a=https://yourdomain/vmc.pem'.
  5. 5Test with BIMI Inspector or bimigroup.org. Realise only Gmail and a few clients render it, for many it is signal value only.
