Marketing wants our logo next to the sender in Gmail and Outlook
BIMI shows a logo in mail clients that support it (Gmail, Apple Mail, some Yahoo). Prerequisites: DMARC at p=quarantine or p=reject and a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) from an issuing CA. Not all clients render it, and a VMC costs real money.
Try this first
- 1Check the prerequisites: domain has DMARC p=quarantine pct=100 or p=reject. Without that BIMI does nothing.
- 2Produce your logo as SVG Tiny PS 1.2 (square, no scripts, no external references). Many logos need to be redrawn.
- 3Buy a Verified Mark Certificate from DigiCert or Entrust. Requires a registered trademark (BOIP for Benelux) and costs a few hundred to a thousand euros per year.
- 4Publish the BIMI record as TXT at default._bimi.yourdomain: 'v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain/logo.svg; a=https://yourdomain/vmc.pem'.
- 5Test with BIMI Inspector or bimigroup.org. Realise only Gmail and a few clients render it, for many it is signal value only.
When to bring us in
If you are unsure whether BIMI is worth it, especially the VMC and trademark route, we can run the numbers for your sending volume.
