Refurbished laptop for business, yes or no?

Refurbished business laptops are a serious option, not a second choice, provided you buy from an actual commercial refurbisher and not Marktplaats. For most SMBs it saves a substantial slice of the purchase price without compromising quality or security.

Try this first

  1. 1Buy from a specialised commercial refurbisher: they ship with data-wipe certificate, BIOS reset, 12-24 months warranty and a Windows Pro reinstall. EU examples: Refurbed, A-Lokaal, Greenpan, Dell/Lenovo Outlet. Ask for data-wipe certificate (NIST 800-88) and BIOS/firmware update.
  2. 2Sweet spot: 1-2 year old business line (Dell Latitude, HP ProBook/EliteBook, Lenovo ThinkPad T/X). Avoid consumer refurbs and gaming laptops, those are not built for 8h/day.
  3. 3Risk: older TPM/Secure Boot may limit Windows 11/12 support. Check the exact model against Microsofts compatibility list before ordering.
  4. 4Warranty: a good refurbisher gives 24 months commercial warranty. Marktplaats peer sales give nothing. The price gap rarely justifies the warranty gap.
