We need to find out after the fact where a mail went and what happened to it
Message Trace in Exchange admin shows what happened to a message, delivered or not, by which rule or policy.
Try this first
- 1Exchange admin > Mail flow > Message trace
- 2Search by sender, recipient, or message-id
- 3Trace covers 30 days by default, longer with extended trace
- 4Per result, 'View details' for the rules and policies that fired
When to bring us in
For traces older than 30 days, use extended/historical trace, report arrives within a day.
